Membership Requirements & Applications
Applicants:
Applications become available to current sophomores and juniors in February. Forms will be handed to students directly with the current GPA requirement by their 1st hour teacher (Week of 2/13 or 2/20). No late applications will be taken. The 2023-2024 application window will open in February. Applications are due March 10th, 2023 to Ms. Drake by 2:15pm.
Anchor Bay High School National Honor Society Criteria for Selection:
1. Sophomore or Junior status.
2. Must have demonstrated excellence in all of the following four areas:
Scholarship: A 3.85 or better cumulative GPA
Service: Involvement in service and volunteering for non-credit school and/or out-of-school activities.
Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in service, school, or work activities.
Character: Positive behavior implying adherence to the school conduct code as well as the law. This includes ethical behavior, cooperative relations with other students and staff, and integrity (no cheating, unexcused absences, intentional dishonesty, etc.).
• Each area above is reviewed independently.
• The Faculty Committee will determine whether you meet all four criteria by using GPA and attendance checks, a faculty and administration survey, and information provided on this application.
• After students become members of the National Honor Society, they are reviewed periodically by the faculty and must maintain the high standards that were required for selection (including NHS approved service activities).

Members must maintain a grade point average above 3.85.
Hours:
Members are required to participate in Community Service each semester. Community Service consists of mandatory group activities, tutoring, community events and activities done in the community on your own.
Discipline:
Members cannot have any disciplinary infractions, both major or minor.
Members cannot have "U" or "N" citizenship grades.
Ethical Behavior:
NHS members are expected to not partake in any unethical behavior outside of school. Members must remember our pillars and uphold them at all times.
